What is the difference between an ophthalmologist and optometrist?

A common misunderstanding is that optometrists are licensed only to prescribe glasses and contact lenses. That hasn’t been the case for about 30 years. The optometrist can be compared to the family physician who manages a wide variety of eye conditions and refers patients for advanced treatments such as surgery.

What is considered normal vision?

“Normal Vision” as defined by each state for driving is 20/20 to 20/40.

Will my insurance pay for my eye exam?

Most insurances will pay for an eye exam if there is a medical diagnosis. A medical diagnosis can be dry eyes, diabetes, glaucoma, allergies, trauma, “Lazy Eye”, crossed eyes, etc.
